Meet the doctors
Dr. Jessica Fritz / Co-Owner
Dr. Fritz was born and raised in a small town in Upstate New York. She worked in veterinary clinics throughout her high school years, fueling her passion for veterinary medicine. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from Cornell University in 2007 and attended veterinary school at Kansas State University, graduating in 2011. Dr. Fritz is USDA certified to complete both interstate and international health certificates.
She and her husband Seth and has three wonderful, crazy, sweet kids; Gabby, Connor, and Sterling. They keep her busy and on her toes every day. In addition to her two-legged children, they also have several four-legged children; Great Dane, Stella, Bernadoodle, Lou and a Cavalier, Eleanor. They also have two cats (Gus and Cheeto). Her Danes are a spark to her veterinary life because she has special interests in everything relating to Great Danes. Stella has severed a clinic blood donor and has saved several pets with severe anemia over the years by donating blood.
Her free time is usually spent with her family and any additional time is spent at the gym. She loves to be physically active and shares that passion for physical activity with her husband, Seth. They have done crossfit and crossfit style classes for the past two years. “Working out is a great stress reliever when I’ve had a hard or trying day.”
Dr. Fritz’s first job out of veterinary school was at Waxahachie Veterinary Clinic, at the time owned by Dr. Gilbreath. “Dr. Gilbreath was an amazing mentor to me. He was always so kind and patient and full of knowledge and helpful advice.” While most veterinary graduates change jobs after their first year, Dr. Fritz loved Waxahachie and the people so much that she stayed on, purchasing the practice with Dr. Bell after the sudden passing of Dr. Gilbreath in 2014.
Dr. Fritz doesn’t have a favorite part of caring for animals. “I don’t have one favorite part that I could pick, as I enjoy so many things. I really like the fact that it’s different every day, no two days are the same or mundane. I get to learn every day and practice my puzzle/problem solving skills with every case I see. I find a great deal of satisfaction in helping not only pets, but their owners too. When an owner comes in and is worried sick about their fur baby, it’s a wonderful feeling to be able to help ease their fears when I can, and help return an important member of the family back to them with wagging tails and sloppy kisses.”
Dr. Fritz enjoys the puzzle/problem solving aspect of her job so much, one of the most interesting things for her is foreign body surgery. She has seen everything from your routine sock, to light bulbs, rubber balls, rocks, belt buckles, and even a shih-tzu that ate 27 full size hair bands! One of the funniest things she can remember happened with Dr. Gilbreath and a sick kangaroo owned by a local exotic farm. “He asked me how/where we were going to get the temperature. I answered, ‘rectally of course.’ We both learned that day, while staring at its hind end, that kangaroos, in fact, don’t have a rectum!”
Dr. Fritz loves that Waxahachie has such a small-town atmosphere while still being able to shop for or do just about anything you want. She likes that Waxahachie has a real sense of community and everyone looks out for each other. The people have always been welcoming, friendly and down to earth. She has met some wonderful clients and friends since moving here and can’t imagine a better place to be!
Dr. Donna Bell / Co-Owner
Dr. Bell received her degree from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Dr. Bell decided it was time for a change and joined the team at Waxahachie Veterinary Clinic. She and Dr. Fritz took ownership of the practice in March of 2016.
Dr. Bell grew up in Nacogdoches, Texas. Her husband, Troy, was born and raised in here Waxahachie. They have 3 children and 2 dogs (Titus and Amelia both Yorkshire Terriers). Dr. Bell and her family call Mansfield home where they are busy with church and many musical activities. In her free time, she loves to read.
Dr. Bell enjoys all aspects of veterinary care but has a special interest in internal medicine and dermatology. Dr. Bell once had a per with terrible skin allergies, so she understands how the client and patient feel in that situation. She loves general practice as it allows her to get to know clients and their pets on a personal level.
